Photographer's Note

As promised, here is the Balmoral Hotel in the Downtown East Side area of Vancouver. I remember taking this photo from inside my car, even though it was taken 5 years ago.

I wanted to keep the faded colours exactly as you see them here, this is more natural, and more real, it also depicts the sadness and atmosphere of the local environment. Popping it up with bright colors didn't feel right at all.

This is one of the streets I took Rob & Lars down, its East Hastings, which has a notorious past and present.

You can see the Balmoral sign on the hotel, the photo I posted last time. You can also see a police presence in this scene, I suppose something just took place, thats why there's a crowd gathering.

However, now that I look at it more closely, it looks to be of a different sort of crowd, almost like a walking tour or something. Having a police presence is a must in this area, they're always around walking the streets and doing their rounds.

I know this isn't an award winning shot my any stretch, but I just wanted to show you the Balmoral in its full capacity. There are several more hotels just like it here, with interesting burnt out signs and poor conditions.

In this scene, I quite like the large oversized BALMORAL HOTEL in black and white on the side wall.

I'll get back to the TE Meeting photos on my next posting. Thanks for looking
