Photographer's Note

This is an overview of Lake O'Hara, with the mountains ringing the lake and the Lake O'Hara Lodge visible by the lakeshore. The lodge is a luxury hotel, with feather beds, gourmet meals and a spectacular view. It is also spectacularly expensive, with those cabins going for over $600 per night. My previous post showed some more modestly priced accomodation, the Elizabeth Parker Hut, run by the Alpine Club of Canada, with dormitory style rooms. There is also a campground that only costs $6 per night (if you can get in!).

The elevation of the lake is about 1,800 meters, placing it in the trees just a little short of the alpine territory, but you are very close to the alpine, and hiking up only 200 meters puts you into a different climate. One attraction of Lake O'Hara is that the trails are short and they have views all the way from the beginning, instead of being stuck down in heavy forest as in many other places.
