Photographer's Note
The MPV Constitution is Vancouver's only authentic paddlewheeler.
Harbour cruises currently runs the Constitution for dinner cruises and special events around Vancouver's scenic shores.
For this shot, I slowed down the shutter speed to capture some of the motion of the moving paddlewheel.
For more images from my recent trip back to Canada, they're available on my travelogue.
I hope you like the shot,
- Dan

Very effective - the whole picture throbs with motion & isolating the red works well.

Hi Dan. A great graphic shot of some sort, I think. Very few colors in strong and effective contrast, and the use of the low shutter along with the tight composition gives fine action. But especially I like the beautiful red, wauw. Nice framing. You have a great gallery and a very fine web, thanks for sharing it all. Take care, Jens :-)

Hi Dan,
What a neat idea to capture this paddle wheel at very close range so as to see some of the blur of action in living color! Very good detail and pov. Nice work and TFS. Gerald

Thumbnails can be very deceptive sometimes. I almost didn't even open this one. Glad I did though. This is quite mesmerizing. The amount of blur is perfect to capture the speed of the wheel while still maintaining sharpness to the photo. The white, red, and black color scheme is cool too. Reminds me of "The White Stripes." I can't believe the name of this boat is DANIELWALSHSTUDIOS.COM ;-)

i sure love this partial desaturation! it has a lot of impact! excellent technique application to keep some blur on the rolling wheel!

Part of the success of this photo I feel is the slow shutter speed which created just the right sense of movement on the old paddle wheel. I also like the way you engraved your name to the floor too. How did you do that? Nice composition Dan!

Hello Dan,
So you were in Canada, and when I see your new pictures I realize how many I am missing everyday. I like this one very very much, great catch with a slow speed and good desaturation of the sea which looks gray.

Hi Dan,
Great picture of this paddlewheeler. The motion is very well captured. It's nice you kept the wheeler in red and the rest in grayscales or am I wrong?
Greetz,
Didier
