Photographer's Note

Granville Island lies close to the heart of Downtown Vancouver - the bridge at the top of the picture - Granville Bridge, carries Granville St which runs through Downtown all the way to the seashore and the main station.

The 'island' lies on False Creek and is recovered from the mud flats - it's the Covent Garden of Vancouver - a market full of goodies and fresh produce, restuarants and bars, street entertainers and music, middle to up market shops, outlets for artwork as well as hosting the Emily Carr Art College. It's a very popular place for tourists and for inhabitants of the city to hang out.

Photographically it's really full of interest - I could have spent a lot of time there - as it was I made my way back to where we were staying through it a number of times as well as choosing it as a night time place to eat more than once.

I really like playing with this style of black and white photography reminiscent of urban styles from America in the 40's-50's.
