Photographer's Note
For the first time in a long time I've been able to get out of the house and take local photos - having a toddler at home will do that, as a lot of you already know.
My mother was able to look after our son, so we headed downtown to the new Vincent Van Gogh art exhibit. What a blast we had...so glad we got out.
The Convention Centre was converted to this huge open room, with tall walls, covered in Canvas. Light projection machines were displaying images of Van Gogh's painting on the walls and the floor.
The images would last about 20 seconds, then it would switch to another.
Tripods were not allowed, so I had to bump up the ISO and still use a slow shutter speed - so forgive me if they're not 100% pin sharp. This image is taken at 1/20 and ISO 800. And yes, I could have raised the ISO to 1600 or 2400+, but it would just be too noisy. I did the best I could.
This is one of my favorites...its a simple scene, but the colors and mood strikes me.
I have dozens more of these and will continue posting.

Hi Craig,it was definitely visiting an exhibition after a long time, while here in Italy everything is still closed and blocked. The set-up reminds me a lot of those I saw at the EXPO in Milan in 2015, the effects with Van Gogh's paintings are truly remarkable, the photo is excellent but certainly experiencing the emotion on the spot is another thing.Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Craig
I like the repetition of the woman with the yellow hat in the bg. The silhouetted people are essential for scale. Good colour sharpness and graphism. Tfs!

Hi Craig,
The presence of the persons is animatong the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the arthwork. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Hello Craig,
A very nice artistic projection of the 'Girl in White' by Vincent van Gogh.
I think it is wonderful that the projection of the green field continues on the floor.
The pitch-black ceiling also suggests that we are in the open air.
Further, I like the silhouettes of the visitors.
Well done!
Best regards, Paul

Hi Craig
A good one to escape to. It looks like the same exhibition that was on in Sydney late last year and because of COVID we didn't travel to Sydney for it. But then we have been to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.
A good point of view with just enough people.
cheers

Wonderful green display for the known artist work, Craig.
Scale by the silhouette of the visitors to the exhibition was well made.
raising a todler should not prevent you guys from going to see places, and I say this from experience. Enjoy with the kid, show him places in our world.
My best regards,
Ike

Hello Craig,
This is a really good and catchy photo. The dark sky and the dark silhouettes of spectators mean as much as the paintings and their continuation on the ground. All the ingredients of this photo work closely together to create a fine atmosphere.
Best wishes,

Hello Craig, what a fabulous way to exhibit some of Van Gogh’s work. I would love to be here, walking through the pictures.
I can imagine you taking advantage of this experience getting as many shots as you could.
Great point of view. The colours and textures of the paintings look wonderful enlarged in this way.
The silhouetted people add scale and added interest, a vital part of the scene in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Craig,
What a blast photo !!! you've here.
Van Gogh must be proud of you....producing this images , your 'way' and 'style' :-)
I must say, you've the best image 'Girl in White' standing against the background of soothing green of tall grasses with few touches of red poppies ( all over the floor too).
The black ceiling and people .... look-like the 'ghost' from the past of Van Gogh during the last months of his life , when this painting was painted.
You mentioned, covered in Canvas.....is it the white sail roofs? Stunning Convention Centre....
Thanks for sharing a 'touch of dutch' scene.

I liked a lot the result. the interaction of the real people with the huge painting made of light is impressive and photogenic. I presume you became crazy to take more and more options.. TFS. here such events are prohibited, 300,000 died yet..
take care

Hello Craig,
This is great! I've seen ads for this exhibit. It will be in NYC this summer. I like the contrast between the large, painted figures, and the tiny visitors. The dark silhouettes look great against the colorful background, and I like your chosen composition; it has nice balance. Take care!

Hello Craig,
This photo makes me so incredibly jealous! Not only because you were able to visit a museum (they have been closed here for months now), but also because there was a Van Gogh exposition! Fantastic photo of these huge green paintings with the small silhouettes of the people in between them. Great shot!

Hello Craig,
Ha! ha! You've found just how useful and loving mothers can be!
You might also have learned that you don't always need to use your tripod! The high ISO has worked very well to avoid any noise and you must have a steady hand!
These are quite beautiful, standing out so clearly against the night sky. Their slight reflections on the ground unite the images perfectly.
I would have like to see these!
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig
I notice you were the eighth zombie-in-black wandering about like lost souls around this superb illumination.
Nevertheless, to encourage you, I must say there is lot of foreknowledge left alive in your walking-dead behavior, since the setup within the frame looks inspired by a professional experience!!
A prize winner on TE!

Hi Craig,
yes haveing a child definitely changes priorities. You start refering to the previous period in you life as "BC times" = Before Child.
It is good to have grandparents around. We live far away from our families so we cannot count on a help like that. Imagine that.
Great photo here. I like this exhibition. There is so much light and color. You have chosen a great angle and the silhouettes of people help to imagine the scale, adding so much life.
Excellent reportage,
M

Hi Craig
It's lovely to see you posting, even if it's not a daily event. I, myself, have become an unfrequent visitor to the site, following my dad's passing and having to share my life with my mum's now. But it's really good to hear how people are getting on with their lives, especially in these challenging times.
Great idea for an outdoor exhibition and a well-seen photo. I love the green glow and the colours. The sense of scale is so well conveyed by including the "little" people, their silhouettes scattered among the artwork. Repetition of the main subject works well too.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hi Craig,
Wow that's quite massive presentation. Modern projection technology really can do wonders. And it was pretty dark, all the people appear as mere silhouettes. The way how the poppies appear on the floor is wonderful.
