Dominion & Woodward's

This is a photo taken at the edge of Downtown East Side, the bad area of the Vancouver city centre, which Craig has told us about in some of his posts. Seen here is Victory Square. The two buildings in the background are the Dominion Building on the left and Woodward's Building on the right.

The Dominion Building is a flatiron building, which, upon completion in 1910, was the tallest commercial building in the British Empire. As Craig has explained, the place is haunted! Woodward's Building was completed in 2009 and reaches a height of 122 metres. The original building was constructed in 1903 as a part of Woodward's Department Store, but after the store's bankruptcy, the building was demolished and the site redeveloped. The foreground features the park at Victory Square and the Cenotaph, the Vancouver War Memorial, on the corner of West Hastings Street and Cambie Street.
