Photographer's Note

This is an oyster lease; view from Runningshoe Point of the Malaspina Penisula in Malaspina Inlet looking east towards Trevenon Bay, Coode Penisula and the Bunster Mnts. of Okeover Inlet, BC.
In the foreground are late summer afternoon shadows of tall Fir & Hemlock trees hovering over the tidal oyster beach. This beach is seeded & harvested with oysters about 3 times a year. Hand picked, graded & sent to market all over the world as singles by the dozens.
In the background is a grid of longlines using plastic barrel floatation systems to hold hectares of undersea vertical strings, 9' long. On these strings are thousands of oysters growing out over a three year period.
This oyster farm has been producing BC Pacific Gigass oysters for twenty years. It is now in it's expermimental/feasablity stage for also growing mussels & seaweeds.
