Fisgard Lighthouse

Lighthouses always make for perfect photo opportunities, so it was a pity we couldn’t really visit this one; the National Historic Site it is part of was about to close when we drove past. Luckily we could still see it a little further down the road. Most of my photos are a little unsharp though due to a combination of the heavy zooming that was required and a rather strong wind. However, this one turned out acceptable.

Fisgard Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse on the Canadian west coast and was constructed in 1859-60. It is located near Colwood on Vancouver Island at the mouth of Esquimalt Harbour on the north side of the Juan de Fuca Strait, which separates Vancouver Island (and Canada) from the Olympic Peninsula (and the United States).
