Behind and above Peyto Lake lies the glacier and snow fields that feed the lake with its great ice blue colour - Peyto Glacier.
You can just see a terminal lake near the glacier. When I look at the photo again it is actually 2 glaciers that meet (those 2 dark lines like tracks) at their bases.
Now - global warming:
Have a look at Pierre's (pierrefonds) photo from 1999 and compare the base of the glacier with my photo from 2012. Both would have been taken from the same spot. In mine you can see the terminal lake whilst in Pierre's photo (up near the top at the bottom of the snow) where the lake is in mine in 1999 it was just glacier which had retreated quite a bit in those 13 years between photos. It is now over 8 years since my photo so the glacier would have retreated a lot more.
