Photographer's Note

This photo is a thin section of a piece of granite from the Canadian Shield. The camera is mounted to a microscope. The rock is cut and glued to a piece of glass, ground to a thickness of 30 microns (0.03 mm) and polished. This section is being viewed at 100x magnification with cross-polarized light. The brown and green minerals are biotite and the white to black are quartz and feldspar. For more information please feel free to contact me.
