Photographer's Note

For me this sort of unforgiving, majestic, harmonious natural landscape is one source of inner peace. Of course, God, family, friends, and personal accomplishment are all greater sources of peace for me, but I think we too often overlook the power that being alone or mostly alone in nature can bring. I feel it most strongly when I've reached my destination on a hike, far from the crowds. But I also feel it in the frontcountry in the early morning and late evening hours, when mankind has largely receded and nature regains its wildness.

I had just gotten back from a short jaunt up on the Bow Summit Lookout trail. There were still almost no tourists at the Peyto Lake overlook when I got back, even though it was shortly after 8:30. All mine, at least for a few more minutes.
