Photographer's Note

The wood has always occupied an important place in the Quebec life, the woodcutter being an outstanding character in its history. Before being anything else, a genuine Quebecois is a woodcutter – that one who knows, likes and respects the forest – the woodland. He looks after it, protects trees in good health and cut those which are damaged. This is the good interaction between the man and the Nature – both of them survive.

In the past, the tool of the woodcutter was the ax. Today, it is rare to find a country home which does not have a motor chain saw. We have both :-)

There are lots of people that still use a wood stove to heat the house in Winter – it is a great saving in electricity. I didn't know exactly this method before moving to live here. It is a very effective heating system when it is provided with conduits to distribute heat through the house.

On this picture, we can see firewood piled, on the edge of the road, at the entry of a woodland (in this case, a maple tree forest). The firewood is ready to face the Winter, coming soon.
