Photographer's Note
I was surprised to see this heron in Montreal's Botanical Garden, considering that quite a few people were around and these birds usually shy away from our kind. While this is in a Botanical Garden, birds are free to come and go as they please. A few other photographers were also happy to get pictures of this bird. I got many shots, including close ones, but I really wanted to get it in flight, so I waited a good 20 to 30 minutes before it happened. I have my DX4530 set to high-resolution and it takes a few seconds between shots, so I pretty much had one chance to get it this close and it ended-up being worth the wait. Every time it seemed like it may be take-off time, I would half-press the shutter button to set the focus on the bird, saving precious time. I had the camera set to "Sports", which helps a lot for moving targets.

It has all the potential of being really interesting, but since I'm not sure what is missing, I will guess. I think I'd like to see more details or maybe more brightness. The blur is a nice idea, and you obviously worked to capture this moment. I like the way you caught his wings - unusual!
