Photographer's Note

This is the view from the tower from the Notre Dame de Bonsecour chapel in Montreal. We visited this chapel during the May 5th Montreal meeting.

From the tower I had an interesting view over the streetscape below, and the cross seems to dominate everything.

Once upon a time, Quebec was really marked by the sign of the cross. From 1936 to 1939 and from 1944 to 1959, Quebec was ruled by provincial prime minister Maurice Duplessis, a conservative who ruled the province with an iron fist together with the catholic church. In those days, Quebec was poor and backward and dominated by an english speaking elite.
