Photographer's Note

The photo of Nivaldo about washerwomen reminded me one I had taken recently. I took this picture for two reasons: first because of the colours of Autumn (they're already gone with the fall of leaves) and, on the other hand, to show this system of clothes-line, widely used here, which I find very interesting.

I knew many "apparatuses", planned for the main purpose of not taking too much place, but I didn't know this one, whose purpose is to let us make the clothes dry outdoors without needing to go there. Or simply without needing to move ourselves.

It works with a line that circulates between two pulleys, each one in each extremity (on this photo, there are two clothes-lines). We don't need to go moving in order to hang clothes, it's the line that moves.

Ah, the smell of washed clothes is so pleasant when we make them dry outdoors! It's a pity, in Winter, we cannot use this system, we have to use the clothes dryer machine.
(Snow is already forecasted for tonight)

There are municipalities where the use of clothes lines is not permitted in some places. But in the countryside, there is no problem.

In WS, a picture of a clothes-line in use.
