Parliament Hill

Last year, I started my series of photos from North America with a photo of the US Capitol in Washington D.C. and even though this is my second photo from my recent visit to this part of the world, it features a similar place: Parliament Hill (French: Colline du Parlement) in Ottawa, Canada's capital.

The photo was taken a little over two weeks ago in the late afternoon. The light conditions could have been better, but from this side of the building they were easier to handle.

Seen here is the Centre Block of the Canadian Parliamentary Complex, which contains the House of Commons and the Senate. It was built between 1916 and 1927 after the original building had burnt down. The 92m-high clock tower, known as the Peace Tower, has become a Canadian icon.

Dag Lars,

Eventjes een sprongetje naar Canada, precies of het niets zijn, voor jonge mensen is dit normaal nietwaar!
Wat u laat zien is echt heel mooi als architecturen foto.
Maar de toren in het midden is de echte in het oog springende beeld.
Schitterend foto werk.

The wideness of the lawn is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the canadian parliament building. The good luminosity is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

it is a real imposing building, the tower is the most interesting aspect of it. nice details of this architecture. the angle you choose made the building very imposing. TFS

A Building in English styled archi.-desighn, and an imposing sight, Lars.
The main tower with the canada flag is a good focal point on photo.

indeed the light was quite challenging, a bit pity that so much of the building is covered with shade but nevertheless you have managed to convince me with this photo that this is a beautiful structure with nice architecture.

Hi Lars,

Good sharpness and perspective has been well managed placing the verticals centrally. I tried placing both the Eiffel Tower and Big Bemn off to the side of the image frame but the distorted angles made it seem unnatural. A good angled pov showing 2 facades and the distinctive French-styled architecture. Tfs.

Hello Lars,
It's a very impressive building and I can see why the tower has become an icon of Canada. It's a bit like the Big Ben of London. You had to go some distance to get all of this huge complex inside the frame, but that had the advantage of giving you a nice green foreground.
