Photographer's Note

The Soo River Company's Joseph X. Robert, with a load of iron ore for the steel mills of the Chicago area, travels upbound in the Detroit River with a late evening sun behind. This vessel transported grain, cement, salt and iron ore between various ports on the Great Lakes to ports on the St. Lawrence River for further shipment to Europe and beyond.

This workhorse was built in 1943 by the Great Lakes Engineering Works in Ecorse Michigan (USA) for the Bethlehem Steel Company and was named the Mesabi. It was subsequently renamed the Lehigh before being sold to the Soo River Company in 1975. It was again renamed as the Willowglen and has since been retired and is now used as a floating storage silo.

The Robert is seen sailing past the Renaissance Centre (1977), part of the Detroit, Michigan USA skyline.

This double exposure began as a strategically placed moon shot in a previous night's sky into this late evening scene.
