Photographer's Note
This beautiful Georgian house was built in 1822, as the home of Sir William Campbell, Sixth Chief Justice of Upper Canada, and his wife, Lady Hannah.
It is the oldest remaining house from the original site of the Town of York, the foundation of today’s Toronto.
On March 31, 1972, it was moved to its present location at the corner of Queen and University from its original home 1 ½ kilometres to the southeast, at the intersection of what is now Adelaide St. and Frederick St., saved from the wreckers’ ball by a professional association of Trial Lawyers known as the Advocates' Society (proof that there ARE some good lawyers in this world!!).
Although it is dwarfed by the Canada Life Building behind it, it stands out as an island of calm in the midst of a busy city.
Tech: Shot in RAW, converted to jpg, cropped slightly from bottom and left sides, resized and sharpened edges

Silke,
This is a nice shot of this great house. The Architecture is nice and well framed by the trees. The snow on the ground adds a lot to the photo.
The lighting and colors are great.

Hi Silke,
Beautiful shot of this historical house. The photo is nicely framed by the trees and the large building in the background. There is a Campbell mansion in my neighborhood I guess they got around.

Hi Silke,
Interesting lightning of the entrance. I searched in vain the spot lights causing the pure white on the columns. So there are no black sheep in the house only white as snow lawyers according to the pure white of the building and the photographer's note.

Hi Silke
A lovely home, colonial style I think. The white porch contrast wery well with the brown brick walls. Bare trees always make good framing devices as in this picture.

Hi Silke
Good graphism & sharpness. Perhaps a little more brightness in the midtone areas? I like the subtle warm vs cold colour opposition, between the red ochre facade of the buiding, & the blue sky. Tfs!

Hi Silke,
Looks like the white house in Toronto, hopefully this one without "W" ;-)
Nice in style, and with bright white columns to contrast against the bricks, and not much remaining snow as far as I can see.
Saw your updated intro, where are you moving to ? (I mean before Mulhouse...)
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hello Silke. Again a photo, which brings up for discussion the past. In addition a good text. The Campell House has style, - and personality. Beautifully that one maintains and retains these important historical houses. Very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Silke,
Your view of Historic Campbell House is superb through trees. I like white frames on brick façade and dark colored window wings that creates excellent contrasts under blue sky for me every time. Leafless tree branches and their dark colors are makes your frame rich. Congratulations.
Friendly Regards,
Ertugrul

Hello Silke,
Good point of view, where you manage to isolate yet place the building in the surroundings!
Good details in the architecture, and the big old tree frames the scenery nicely...
Good light, pleasant colours and a fine sky!

Hi Silke,
I like the way you presented the house in its
relation to the neighbourhood.
Can't see any flaws in it as it's composed
perfectly.
Good note, too!

Hi Silke,
this is a impressing combination of things making a capture interesting for me. The tree(s) with its branches before the house (better in winter because of the lost leaves), the house with a typical architecture from a good POV, snow and blue sky. You used good contrast and colours for that and also the sharpness is good. The bright sunlight below the entrance is my personal favourite.

Hi Silke. Beautiful house and a good presentation from a well chosen viewpoint. The trees not only frame it but soften its rather austere Georgian appearance. The colours are lovely although there's a little overexposure of the entrance columns, hardly important. Thanks for your interesting note, too.

Andrew

Wow, it must have been quite a job to move a house that size! An interesting place and an interesting note. The stark trees set off the house well. Regards, Ken.

Hej Silke,
A nice view at this house. There was a nice blue sky here. The trees in the foreground are nice too, and fortunately still without leafs otherwise we wouldn't have seen much else. Good work from a good POV. Well done!

Lars

I have no idea what the fuss is all about. I'm sorry but it seems that people just seem to kiss each others' .... on this site. I love some of the photography on here and I think that you've got some great stuff but I don't see how this one deserves 54 points. I don't get it.
