Photographer's Note

On TE we like to present the Cultures from different parts of the world. The Skateboarding culture knows no physical boundary, and can be seen in almost every part of the world. But, it is a culture in it self, with it's own language and lifestyle for some people.

This 7 year old is demonstrating a move called Drop-in. To perform this a boarder holds the skateboard over the side of a 1/4 or 1/2 pipe, then springs forward on the board to descend the pipe. It is an impressive way to enter the skate park and can generate great speeds. Two days later after the photo the same kid had a cast on his arm because of a fracture, that was caused by this same move. Still determined he was on a scooter. I guess injuries are common with this sport. It was nice to see that he did have a helmet on, as many in the park did not.

This skate park is located in Mundy Pond area of St.John's.
