Photographer's Note

To me, public art is a measure of the humane side of a city. It appeals to the non-commercial, emotional side of the population. It beautifies, entertains, amuses, and provokes thought.

It is therefore with great pleasure that I noticed the recent addition of a selection of fantastic ant sculptures at the entrance to the financial precinct of Dubai. I love them and think they’re great.

The works are on loan from American sculptor, Susan P Cochran, who comments “I don’t want people to be too darn serious.”

On the other hand, if you want to be serious, there is a more sublime message in the hard working, industrious nature of the ant and the lessons we as humans can take from that.

To me they’re just so much better to look at than a computer screen and I am happy to share them with you.
