Photographer's Note

This was taken at the "Gold Souk" (traditional Arabian market) inside the Dubai Mall right after the mall's closing time, as the area was blocked for visitors with the help of these charming wrought iron shutters (pls see complementary workshop image showing this entrance in full).

Behind this gate is the world's largest indoor gold souk with a collection of over 220 gold and jewellery retailers. Accentuated with decorative gold and marble detailing under a blue, starry "sky", this area of the mall is designed to recreate the time-honoured appeal of an Arabian souk and to act as a tribute to the rich heritage of the gold trade in the region. The souk reveals the journey of the traveling merchants crossing the desert expanse to trade gold and other commodities.
