Photographer's Note
Turkish olives and olive oil on sale at a covered local market in Bursa. I didn't buy any, but some of the local pizzerias I visited, no doubt did source their olives from here. Nearby Gemlik is famous for its black olives. The climate of Marmara is perfect for olive growing with hot summers & cold winters.
The word 'olive' derives from Latin ŏlīva ("olive fruit", "olive tree"), possibly through Etruscan 𐌀𐌅𐌉𐌄𐌋𐌄 (eleiva) from the archaic Proto-Greek form *ἐλαίϝα (*elaíwa) (Classic Greek ἐλαία elaía, "olive fruit", "olive tree").

Hello Chris,
A simple but attractive photo. There are no black olives here but enough other colours to make the photo bright and appetizing. I guess this represents one of the oldest cultural heritages of the Mediterranean area. You composed the photo well with the plastic bags seen on diagonals.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Chris,
Les olives aux douleurs différentes attirent le regard. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des olives qui sont offertes à la vente. La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne journée.

Hello Chris,
I really like this close-up of these many olives on offer in the market stall here. Their different colours are very appealing and stand out so well in a fine light here.

Hello Chris,
Beautiful market scene with a good variation in colour of the different olives.
However, the black olives were already sold out.

Hi Chris
A good market photo of the olives.
It isn't worthwhile buying fresh olives because of the slow process getting them ready for eating - I tried that once having collected olives from trees on an old outback NSW station. Once was enough but the result was good.
cheers

Hello Chris,
For me, this is an absolute treat; for my husband a scene to make him turn away in disgust!
I love olives, he hates them!!
Your photograph shows a wonderful, colourful display, sharp and nicely displayed.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

chris
a nice display with many samples in different aspects. I remember a similar scenery in morocco, but they were so dirty.. nice note explaining the origin of the world (oliva) in portuguese the tree is oliveira, but the fruit is named azeitona and the oil is named azeite, these two last words are from the muslin times while the first one is latin..
anyway my family produced olive oil until the death of my grandfather.
take care
jorge
