10 Years on TE, a photo from Rize, Black Sea

Photographer's Note

It is my 10th birthday and the first time i celebrate myself on TE, but once in a decade is not too cheesy, i suppose. The next will come with my 20th year, promise :)

Eastern Black Sea Region houses Kaçkar Mountains, the so called "Alps" of Turkey, with many high mountains and plateaus, waiting for the visitors who are interested in high altitiude trekking. The lower parts are filled with thousands of acres of thick rain forests, rivers and cascades. The overall landscape can be called a wild heaven on Earth.

This one was taken 6 years ago, in Avusor Plateau @ 2.500 meters of altitude, just before a heavy mist covered everywhere. The climb lasted for one and a half hours, and i was sweating constantly in a chilling climate, my sweat freezing all in a sudden...

Congratulations on 10 years that could not be described any other way than having been very successful. Posting only 620 pictures in such a long time also shows that you have placed quality far ahead of quantity.

Well congratulations on your 10th anniversary here on TE - you must have been about 4 when you joined ;) I've looked at a lot of your critiques and older photos and can't get over what a remarkable - and entertaining - contribution you've made to this site. So thank you and here's to many more decades here. Your photo is sensational, and the landscape actually reminded me of that on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I would never have guessed that this was your homeland. It just goes to show what a devastatingly beautiful and varied landscape your country has to offer. Sensational colours, plays of light where you have captured the mood superbly. Thanks for sharing and once again, congratulations :)

Hi Deniz,

10 years, that's quite impressive and I think that you should receive a special title like Sir Taskin, but you have to subtract the year from your military service when you have vanished... :-p))

I think that showing a part of your country is de circonstance, and what a stunning place it is! The drama that these clouds infuse in your shot is remarkable. Managing the extreme variation of light was surely a challenge, and you have succeed to get the best of both worlds.

but seriously-I think 10 years abounding in new friendships and of course 10 years of great photo experiences.
Concerning the view itself-it´s definitely something I like...and unfortunately something I´m too lazy for:)at least the have cable car or something:)
Once again My Best Congratulations to You and I think you´ll have to think about some bigger party when you´re 18:)big party in Istanbul?:)

Congratulations Deniz on ten years of commitment to TE.

I expect you already know about the ten year rule? That is there is a general notion that it takes at least 10 years of hard work to master a subject of study and become a creative genius. Though I believe in Henri Cartier Bresson's case it took him 15 so maybe you have another 5 years left!

As for the image - great composition and light. I was surprised that this is in Turkey it reminds me so much of Snowdon in North Wales - that lake could easily be Glaslyn Lake which you pass on your way to the summit.

10 years & 620 posts...not a scorching ace, but steady I would say ;-)
Quality is more important to some & you surely excel there.
A beautiful high reach shot here with the small lake reflecting the clouds a strong focal point. The low clouds hugging the hill slopes also look good.

It is a kind of promotion. Beatuful high mountain landscape and we have very similar places in our Tatras. 2500 m - nnot bad.

Happy birthday. I see even the clouds themselves have come down for the party, now that's what I call a guest list :)
This is an awesome scene, to me the clouds look like the have been summoned. They seem almost out of place with the bright vibrant greens of the foreground, and that crystal reflection, but they add such a dynamic element to the view. Excellent play of light and shadows makes this a really appealing and fascinating shot.

Nice capture of the high alpine tarn lake with some superb reflections of the blue sky and clouds amongst the greenery. The clouds enliven the composition. The dark jagged peaks at right contrast well against the sunlit peak. Tfs!
