Hagia Sophia (in greek: Aγία Σοφία; in turkish: Ayasofya, Italianate in Hagia Sophia or Church of Holy Wisdom) is a basilica, and the main monument in Istanbul, was a patriarchal seat, then a mosque and is now a museum. Known for its gigantic dome, the apex of Byzantine architecture, was completed in 537.
