Photographer's Note

I was in Istanbul for a week this spring. I was amazed to see how modern and fast developing country it is. Still, I had one sad impression... Especially in an old religious quarter, close to the Sultan Ahmet mosque, where I lived, you could see a lot of people on the street. Man chatting, drinking tea, very few women tough... Where are they? They are in small, stinky workshops where they produce sleepers like those. It does change a perspective, when behind every smiling man advertising beautiful products, like this sleepers, and inviting you for another cup of tea, you imagine a hard-working woman glueing it all up.
