Photographer's Note

Proceeding further towards the Harem proper, we went down this alley, called "Büyük Biniş Rampası" (Grand Embarkation Ramp). From here, the sultan would go out of the palace in disguise to mingle with his subjects. Looking back at the ramp, we could see the Tower of Justice looming over us.

Tower of Justice (Adalet Kulesi) was intended to be a symbol of sultan’s eternal stance against injustice. The tower was built as an extension of Topkapı Palace. It is easily recognizable as the tallest part of the Palace.
