Photographer's Note

Back to the most classic view of Istanbul.
One evening deniz went with me to make some blue hour shots near Eminonu. The weather was good, full moon spectacular but the results were very poor. I tried to adjust my tripod, to use walls as support, but nothing helped. It must have been fun to Deniz to observe my efforts:). It was also fun to other people, some came to see what I was doing. Deniz gave me many good advices, so the next evening I went alone in the night with my tripod again, this time to Sultanahmet.
The moon was still beautiful and I liked my shots better.

I felt safe in Istanbul, even if sometimes I went alone in the evening. Luckily I haven't read this before:

Worldwide coverage of several high-profile violent incidents this year has pushed the topic of solo female travel into the forefront of public dialogue.
In January, New York City mother Sarai Sierra was killed while travelling independently in Istanbul, her body found near the city’s ancient walls in early February. In March, a Norwegian woman who reported being raped while on business in Dubai was charged with having extramarital sex, perjury and drinking alcohol, and sentenced to 16 months in jail.

Reports of sexual assault and even gang rape have been recorded across India, including a British tourist jumping off her balcony in Agra in March to escape potential assault from a hotel owner.
