Photographer's Note

The baptism of Nikol at the Gregorian Armenian Church of the Apparition of the Holy Cross (Yerevman Surp Haç Ermeni Kilisesi) in Kuruçeşme, near the coast of the Bosphorus, in Istanbul...

The church was first opened for worship by Patriarch Zakaryan II in 1798. It was later rebuilt by the Ottoman imperial architect Garabet Balyan in 1834. A church bell tower was added to its west side in 1858.

In 1975 and 1988, the church underwent two important restorations. Thru years, the basilica plan was transformed into a cross plan thru addendum of two chapels at the north and south ends of the church.

Increased sharpness, applied gradual toning and retouches. -1/3 exposure compensation.
