Photographer's Note

I left Greece with a "blue" hour and I 'm back from Istanbul, after 8 days with another "blue".

What can you say about Istanbul? (for us Greeks it's still "Κωνσταντινούπολη"= Constantinoupoli ("Constantino's City") or Constantinople, from the name of the first Byzantine Emperor, but we usually call it simply "Poli"="City", and it seems that "Istanbul" might come from the greek expresion "Eis tin Polin", that means "To the City").

I don't want to say much, I 'll only tell one thing for now (we 'll have the chance to tell a lot about Istanbul in some future posts): So far, I thought that Barcelona was the most beautiful city of the world, now that I visited this glorious city, I am not sure anymore!!! In fact it's many cities in one, so diferent one from the other but all of them beautiful and it's the only city of the world, honoured with the privilege to stand in two diferent continents.

So, here's one of the reasons, I chose to upload as my 1st photo from Istanbul, this one from Kiz Kulesi ("Maiden's Tower" or "Leandros' Tower"). Although it's not the most important of the countless majestic monuments of the Istanbul, it's one with great symbolism, because it stands on a tiny island, in the heart of Bosphorus, somewhere between Europe and Asia (you can still see in the background some of the most majestic buildings of the old town, from left to right, the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Topkapi).

The other reason, is that this photo, was taken on one of the many nights I met Korkut ( bostankorkulugu ) -here's part of what we did that night, filaraki! I want to dedicate this photo and also the workshop, to him and his lovely wife, Ipek ( ***SEE THEM IN WORKSHOP*** ). My wife and I, will always be grateful to them for their hospitality and help, I am not sure I will stand up to their hospitality when the come to Greece. These are for you guys, we love you!

I also had the pleasure to meet some other excellent people, dear Mesut bey, Burcu, Fusun and Anil. Unfortunately I missed a great TE meeting on Saturday night, I had to go to the Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarchate, for the Orthodox Easter celebration. I hope I' ll have the chance to meet many more TE members some other times, in some future visit to Istanbul, I 'm sure there will be a lot of them!
