Photographer's Note

I dedicate this entry to all my Orthodox friends in Greece and on the other parts of the Orthodox World.

Today is an important day for Orthodox Christians.
The Epiphany or Orthodox Christmas.

In İstanbul the major ceremony takes place in Phanar where the seat of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch is. After a long ceremony in the church, the celebrants leaded by the Patriarch himself starts a walk towards te shores of the Golden Horn, and there the final and most important part of the ceremony takes place.

The Patriarch throws a wooden cross to the sea, and young people waiting for this momet jumps in the sea to catch the cross.
The winner gives than the cross to the Patriarch and will be awarded by him.
