Photographer's Note

Later that day, we arrived at our hotel in Edirne. It was that last week in which Turkey would be in partial lockdown. Everyday, there was curfew between 9:00 P M and some time in the morning for residents. Over the weekends, there was curfew for the residents as well. However, foreign tourists were not subject to these curfews. But when we got to the hotel, the receptionist told us the whole town would be closed down during the weekend. Now in Istanbul, museums and other touristic places were open over the weekends for the foreign tourists. We had come all the way to see the sights and the receptionist was telling us everything would be closed! I was not happy. We quickly got out to see Selimiye Mosque before the curfew started and got back to the hotel for dinner. I was going to drown my sorrows in this bottle of beer. (Spoilers: It turned out there was plenty to do the next day, but I didn't know that when I took this photo.)
