Photographer's Note
Today, November 11 2012 marks the annual Remembrance Day (Armistice Day), acknowledging the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. I have chosen to post this photo of the Lone Pine Memorial at Gallipoli which I visited earlier this year. It marks the location of great conflict in WW1 between Turkish and Commonwealth (Australian, New Zealand, English and other nationalities) forces in the battle over the Dardanelles channel leading to Constantinople (Istanbul). This is the place where the ANZAC legend was forged, and looms large in the Australian and New Zealand national identity. May those killed in war rest in peace.

hi matthew,
this is a very striking image. the blue contrasts so well with the natural colours in the stone. the lone wreath is very moving, as is your note on such a day. it is very important to remember the sacrifice of others.
have a great week,
brian

Hello Matt,
In Belgium has November 11 a very great meaning, as well as The Great War or the second war are in Belgium very big and heavy been, also for the civilians.
In Flemish Belgium you can find much cemeteries out of WAR I and WAR II.
I am very glad that you a young man thinks to these day.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hi Matt
I managed to get to this same spot just last month. Good sharpness and effective tight cropping in the composition with punchy light contrasts and good density and exposure on the highlights. Tfs!
