Aziziye College in winter, a photo from Erzurum, East Anatolia

Photographer's Note

Apologies for the lower quality, but this was taken through glass. I have cloned out some of the reflections. Erzurum is the coldest town in Turkey due to its high elevation of 2,000 metres+ above sea level. Taken from the 2nd floor of Aziziye College high school. Mount Palandoken (3,271 m) is shrouded in cloud.

It is refreshing to see a winter picture in the middle of the summer heat nowadays, Chris.
The same pattern of the houses are eyes-catching in contrast when snow covered all around.
Quality is fairly good in my opinion, sharp and distinct.

A winter picture in summer this bringhts cooling during the warm days. .
This is real wonderful taken with original colours.
Pleasant composition and amazing to look at.
Sharpness and clarity make it subject still nicer.

Hello Chris,
A reminder that it won't be long before autumn and winter will be upon us! Technical quality is quite acceptable. I like the warm/cool tonal contrasts and the way the clouds hover over the snowy mountain tops, kind of extending them upwards.

Hello again,
I have only been to Erzurum in summer and spring, so I haven't seen the city covered in snow like this. I remember mainly an atmosphere of being far away in a very sparsely populated part of the country. The lower half of the photo, showing the empty ground, isn't so interesting, except for the two persons near the street. But the three layers of clouds, hills and buildings at the top look great.

Spectacular this winter photo with the mountains completely covered with snow, a modern area of the city, the buildings with red brick contrast with white, for nothing reminds me of the city that I visit in summer, with lots of heat and the hillsides of the bare mountains of vegetation.
A nice photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and sharpness.

Hello Chris,
A very different kind of picture than we usually see from Turkey.
You write Erzurum is the coldest city of the country. Well it does look cold on the photo.
But there are beautiful warm tones of the buildings in the middle.
The picture reminds me of a sky resort rather than a city. The snowy slopes on the background look wonderful.

wonderful winter scenery. I like the high mountains rising just behind the town. The clouds add another layer and more interest. The abundance of snow makes it hard to believe it is Turkey.
The blue sky tops the scenery wonderfully adding the color.

I don't know if its because of the countries location, but for some reason when I think of Turkey, snow just doesn't come to mind at all. Not even a little bit. Taken through glass, if you hadn't of said it I wouldn't have even thought of it. honestly. Those clouds put the photo over-the-top. love the flow of the snowy hills, and the contrasting red/brown buildings, its a beautiful scene. cheers
