Photographer's Note

Tatvan overlooks Lake Van and the central pier is a good place to get some photos even if the fishermen there thought I was a little crazy for including the promontory at left, which is a Turkish military base. The snowcapped peak in the bg is Suphan Dagi, 4058 metres above sea level, although it does not look it when Tatvan itself is 1662 metres above sea level. The water is high in sodium and useless for farming or drinking.

Close to shore the water is like glass, but further out, the wind has rippled the water surface.
