Photographer's Note
Some dried gourds I spotted in a market in Safranbolu. I had seen these used as lanterns in Gümüşlük and as decorations in other parts of Turkey.
The calabash gourd or water pumpkin is first dried, then painted. It is used primarily as a container rather than a food source.

Hello Chris,
We call those calabash gourd as "Calavasa" in Hebrew (pronounces Ka-la-va sa), though its been long time that I did not see it any more.
A nice cloose-up photo.
Good afternoon,

Hello Chris,
Seeing the thumbnail I was reminded I need to buy some more potatoes when I go shopping next time. These dried gourds are commonly found in many places and could serve many purposes, one of them being as photo models. They are really nicely shaped. It's a good photo with fine sharpness and well captured various tones of the rind.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Chris,
This is an interesting close-up of the gourds, clearly revealing their shapes and surface textures and colours.
I wondered if they were used for food; it does seem a waste not to use it, though as containers would be decorative use.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Chris,
Le cadrage serré met les légumes en évidence. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des courges. La lumière rehausse les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Hi Chris,I had thought about cheeses before reading the notes. There is an Italian specialty called "caciotta" which is really similar to these dried pumpkins, useful photo, original and with perfect details. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Chris,
I have purchased a souvenir in Argentina which was a cup made of a dried fruit, sadly over years something started to grow on it so I had to throw it away. May be it is humid English weather?
Very well spotted repeated pattern here!

Hi Chris
Great capture. Now this is something that we do not see everyday. A charming family having a good chat? Reminds me of those Russian dolls! Well spotted and capture

Hello Chris,
If I remember correctly, they also make a musical instrument, a primitive "saz" out of these.
