The port of call after Istanbul was Kusadasi, Turkey. Then, it is another 20km to Ephesus, one of the most important cities of the Roman Empire—is among the world’s best ancient sites.

At its peak, Ephesus was one of the grandest cities of the ancient world, ranking among the four leading centers of the Roman Empire (along with Alexandria, Antioch, and Rome itself). With a staggering quarter of a million residents, Ephesus was the second-biggest city on the planet (after Rome).
