Photographer's Note

Born in the 4th century, St.Simeon is said to have spent 37 years of his life atop a 12-m high pillar. By doing so he wished to be closer to God. The basilica built in his honour - St.Simeon Basilica, or Qalaat Samaan in Arabic, is rather well preserved, yet you can only see the remains of the pillar - the stone in the centre of the was reduced to this state by pilgrims taking piece after piece of it as a souvenir.
The complex is situated 60 km from Aleppo (Haleb), if you enjoy almost solitary walks in the peace and quiet of such ruins you can easily spend there a couple of hours.
I could have left the ideally blue sky in the photo, but that somehow didn't show the aura of the place, that's why I played with the colours in photoshop, so let's say it's my private vision of the place.
