Photographer's Note

Approximately 1.5 miles offshore is the anchorage area for the port of Doha, Qatar. It was the first land that I saw after working offshore for a month and a half. So for me it was a very pleasant sight and the first stage of the trip back home. Vessels are required to remain in this area till clearance from Customs, which was some of the stringent that I have encountered.

I used a ship’s camera to acquire this photo, as we are strictly forbidden by Law to take photos within the boundaries of any offshore facilities, or carry a personal camera onboard the vessel.

It was a rather difficult photo for me, as the lighting was not cooperative, heat waves over the long distance, and the sand in the air was the largest problem to overcome. A small wind storm pasted a couple of days prior to this, but a slight sandy haze still remained.

Have a look at the large post as I feel the resolution got washed out on the smaller version.

I cropped, adjusted contrast and saturation.
