Photographer's Note

Bir Zikrit, sometimes also spelt 'Zhikrit' or 'Zekreet', is located on the eastern edge of Qatar.

Otherwise known as “Ras Abrouq,” it is a popular spot for weekend campers and those seeking desert solitude. Four-wheel drive is required to get there.

It's a kind of nature reserve with a quiet, shallow beach area, secluded from view by virtue of Zikrit’s dunes and rocky banks.

This picture was shot among the only buildings on this tiny peninsula. Actually, this typical village was built as a movie set and is completely deserted, apart from a lonely caretaker who lives there. A bit spooky, perhaps.

It was also very, very hot.
