Photographer's Note

In the foreground you see the River Jordan close to the site of Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist. The supposed site of Bethany-beyond-the-Jordan is at a loop of the Jordan River about ten kilometres north of the river running into the Dead Sea. The River Jordan is the border between the Kingdom of Jordan and Palestine. So you see parts of Palestine on my picture. But the Greek Orthodox church with its golden dome in the sun is standing on the eastern bank. You can see the loop of the Jordan by clicking on the map function.
