Monastery Market, a photo from Maan, South

Photographer's Note

A view of the rocky crags at the summit of the trek up the many steps to the Monastery, behind me here. Never noticed the parked donkeys top right and the 2 tourists about to enter the cave. 3 of them wisely decided to stay in the shade and have a cool drink on a hot day of 35c. Their donkeys are easier to spot in the centre. I had already had a cold drink further down the hill. I walked both up and down, but got a taxi back to my hotel from the park entrance.

Hello Chris,

Your photograph oozes a sense of aridity and heat!
The land looks parched and the plants sparse.
This agrees with your notes of high temperatures and the need for shade.
Your photograph captures the details very well.

I wonder if the donkeys would stand in the full sunshine, given a choice.

Hi Chris,
This gives a good idea of the desert landscape at Petra, with the sand in the foreground and the barren rock outcrops in the background. The few trees add splashes of green in the otherwise yellowish scene. Good light control in the harsh desert light.

Hello Chris,
I didn't recognize precisely this place, but the picture spoke loudly of Petra. It's among the most interesting places I have seen, and luckily it was probably not as bad as 35 °C during my visit. The heat looks obvious from the bright light and colours and tiny shadows. The well exposed photo captured the warm tones of the sand and rocks perfectly.

Sometimes it happend that we realize details only when developing the original picture, like you wrote here.
Beautiful desert scene, color of the dry soil, caves and the restaurant at the foot of the rocks are a real pleasant, clear photo.

What a beautiful panorama view with the law buildings as hotel.
For donkeys in the sun shall are a very hot, moment for the animals.

Hello Chris, Interesting market, or rather bar, in Petra.Nice view of parking donkeys. I would probably like to climb this hill. Usually, the people complain about the hot weather. I had an original experience - it was flooded there and the ground was white with snow. The Siq was under the water and the tourists escorted by the police on camels had to return through the mountains. It was quite fun.

Hello Chris, the details become even clearer in the large version. It is taken from an excellent point of view, the details of the crags and the caves are in sharp focus.
The people and the donkeys give us a true impression of the scale.
It looks as if it might be a little difficult to walk to the top.

June in Jordan - not the best month although probably better than July! A very fascinating arid scene with caves, donkeys and the empty looking market.

Hi Chris,
great color of the soil and rocks makes the scene so warm and eye catching.
The donkeys which appear in this photo as the only mode of transport, make us feel it was taken in medieval times.
Nice reportage showing a less popular scene from this famous destination,

What an amazing location. This looks like it could be the set of a movie. I like the earthy colors, the desert flowers, and the donkeys in the center, too. The rock formations are also very attractive. Take care!
