Photographer's Note

19 century Jerusalem was confined within the walls of the Old City. It was crowded, sanitation
hardly existed and epidemics very often was a major problem for the population. Sir Moses (Moshe) Montefiore, long time benefctor of the Jewish community established the first ventures outside the walls (1860). Yeminn Moshe was one of them. Today an attractive location overlooking the walls, then it was defenceless and less attractive.
About the way he managed to attract people out of the Old City - with tomorrow's posting.
