Photographer's Note

Situated on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea, Kalia Beach is the first beach travellers will come to at this world-renowned body of water, offering all the comforts that any other ocean-front beach could boast. Deck chairs and sun umbrellas are free of charge, there is a sundry shop, showers with fresh water, bathrooms and, of course, two bars. Bar -418 proclaims itself as the „lowest bar in the world,“ making its slogan one for the photo album.

A trip to Kalia Beach would not be complete without being covered in the dark mud, which is abundant in minerals. While wading through the warm, bath-like water, just scoop up the thick, gooey muck from the bottom of the Sea, sans the sand, rub it all over the body, then let it set and dry, followed by a rinse under the shower or in the Sea itself; skin will be left feeling silky soft to the touch. This has all the signs of a a product on a late-night infomercial, but it is the thing to do while at the Dead Sea
