Photographer's Note

This shot was taken on the shores of Dead Sea, near Ein Gedi Nature Reserve. Normally, the area around Dead Sea is a barren desert with cloudless sky and temperatures in the 40s C. On this February day, however, winter rains caused muddy rivers flowing out of the mountains to form, and their waters created unusual contrast of colors in the sea. This shot was taken as the sun lit up the scene in the foreground, while the background was left out in the dark, stormy gloom, which created this unusual, yet beautiful effect.
