Photographer's Note

During my recent working trip to Israel I had the opportunity to visit one of the most important landmarks of the northern Israeli city of Haifa, the Bahá’í Gardens. That day, the visit was only to the upper section of the gardens, between the top of Mount Carmel and the Shrine. The Shrine itself was closed due to restoration work.

The Bahá’í gardens are part of the Bahá’í World Center located in Haifa. These wonderful landscaped gardens built on 19 terraces extend from the top of Mount Carmel to the flat down part of the City of Haifa. The Bahá’í Shrine, Terraces and Garden are admission fee free and nothing is offered for sale.

The Bahá’í Faith is an independent world religion with more than five million adherents living in almost every country.

The Faith’s holiest shrine is the resting place of Bahá’u’lláh, the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith, considered by Bahá’ís to be the most recent in a line of Messengers of God that includes the Founders of the world’s major religions. The Shrine of Bahá’u’lláh is located at Bahjí, near Acre a city located on the north site of the Bay of Haifa.

The Shrine of Báb, one of Haifa’s most prominent landmarks, is the Faith’s second holiest shrine. It is the resting place of the Báb, who is regarded by Bahá’ís as a Messenger of God whose primary mission was to prepare the way for the coming of Bahá’u’lláh.

Two WS’s are part of this posting. They are:

WS1 – view of the impressive building with Ionic columns which houses the International Bahá’í Archives. It contains the personal effects of the Founders of the Faith, as well as their original Writings and other relics and historical materials.

WS2 - An up-wards view of the gardens taken from second terrace next to the Shrine. The Shrine of Báb can be seen in the middle of the main picture. It is the building with a golden dome and wrapped with the renovations protective cloth.
