Photographer's Note

Top lid of an invaluable cup in the White Palace, Sa'd Abad royal comlex, Tehran.
It depicts the famous and glorious National symbol of the Lion & Sun. Although the style of the symbol is somehow diferent from the original one and a bit modernized, but the elements are the same: A male lion, holding a sword or scimitar in his right hand an a shining sun on his back. Here it is holding a shield in his left hand on which there exists the Pahlavi crown. If you look closer, you'll find out the Pahlavi heraldry or the Imperial coat of arms on the shield. This Lion & sun more resembles those old statues at the gate of the National Assembly of Iran before the revolution of 1979. Those statues were removed following the revolution but they are said to be returened to their original place in near future.

I took this photo from a long distance so the lion is not as clear as I expected.
