Photographer's Note

Tehran is the capital city of Iran, located in the north-central part of Iran, on the slope of the Alborz Mountain. Tehran is the most populated city in Iran and the center of cultural, economical, political and social activities. It is about 1200 meters above sea level. The climate is relatively mild, but can be hot during midday.

During Qajar dynasty (1776-1925), Tehran was chosen as the capital of Iran. The population of Tehran has had a boom in the last decades, as a result of which urban development has not been well planned as shown in this picture. Buildings are densely packed and vegetation is relatively rare, perhaps due to the dry climate of the region. However, there are some nice city parks. The Azadi Square is one of them (but not shown in this picture). Azadi in parsi means freedom.

This was my first trip to Iran, and I took this picture thru an airplane window.
