Photographer's Note

If you don't know anything about Saadi let me just say that he was one of the most appreciated Persian poets. That's not Saadi of course sitting here, but a young Iranian gazing intently at the poet's tomb - a site frequented by pilgrims much like a holy place. They come here to touch the tomb, read Saadi's poetry, ponder on...whatever a human being can ponder on, affected by the works of the artist, perhaps on these words found also at the entrance to the Hall of Nations of the UN building in New York:

"Of one Essence is the human race,
Thusly has Creation put the Base;
One Limb impacted is sufficient,
For all Others to feel the Mace"
