Photographer's Note
The houses within the Archaeological Park of Paphos were luxury villas, but in 332 and 342 AD Paphos was hit by two strong earthquakes . The excavations revealed large and almost intact mosaics which are at the same time a work of art and a documentation of many aspects of life on Cyprus during the Roman Empire.
The houses are named after the subject of mosaics found there. In the main photo you can see the large mosaic in the house of Theseus.

Hello Ryszard,
What a fantastic, elaborate mosaic of this labyrinth. The details are amazing and you captured them really well and clearly. Fantastic that it has survived all those ages.

Swietnie zachowane te mozaiki z czasów Cesarstwa Rzymskiego

Hi Ryszard
That's History beneath our feet!
Superb minute detail of this very ancient Roman mosaic up close with clear patterns and colour. Bit of border on the edge lends a good sense of scale and depth of the whole capture. Indeed an awesome artwork of the highest order!
Best regards

Hello Ryszard, a very beautiful mosaic.
The creators must have been mathematicians to make such a precise pattern, they leave us in awe! And the makers of the mosaic pieces were so skilled in producing these tiny pieces!
The mosaic is in remarkably good condition.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Ryszard, that ancient mosaic exhibited in the archeological park is actually made of concentric circles. It includes a scene with personages of the Roman period in its center. Remarkable piece of art. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Ryszard,
Some years ago I made a journey through Cyprus (north and south) but I never made it to the region of Paphos.
You present us here a very remarkable mosaic. Both in shape as with the labyrinth-like parts around the central figures.
Best regards, Paul
