Photographer's Note
I promise this is the last photo of Rievaulx Abbey, but I wanted to show you a shot from far enough away so you could see the terrace from where I took this shot. You can see the flat grassy walkway of Rievaulx Terrace between the trees above the abbey.
Of the abbey itself the building on the left is the refectory, whilst the church is at the back towards the right. Just to the right of the refectory is the south transept of the church and you can see the side arches of the presbytery of the church right of that. This photo was taken from outside the abbey grounds from the road through the village.
We went on a short walk 2 to 3 miles up the valley on the other side to the terrace. See WS.

Hi Kath,
Not the best light you got here. The Abbey seems a bit lost in brightness and clarity in the middle section (hope you know what i mean), although your focuspoint and adding those two horses is a real bonus for depth and scaling.
Good exposure on the grassland and shaprness is more then okay.
Have a nice weekend, Henk

Hello Kath,
Thank you for including this wide-angle shot of the abbey. Now I have a very clear idea of the topography that this abbey is surrounded by. Your WS photo is very helpful also. Great series full of excellent information and photography.

Hello Kath,
This another sight of the abbey from another angle, and in a lower plane, where you show us its so green environment, with a very direct light that offers us beautiful shades, and with the incorporation of the horses eating in the grass, forms a magnificent composition.
I like it.
Best regards, and have a nice week end.

Not only humans were enjoying the abbey, but also horses. Amazing how many valuable and interesting different angles and scenes you're able to extract from that place. Each of those posts add for a better and compreehensive overview of that abbey. I'm already pretty interested what will be your next angle.

Hi, Kath. It's interesting to see the abbey in its natural surroundings. This shows us once again that the monks were very good at choosing beautiful places for their abbeys. The tree on the right gives depth and the horses add contrast and scale. Maybe the light is not so good here as in your preceding posts of the abbey, but it is nonetheless an interesting image.

Hello Kath -
This image screams English Countryside, I love it! I think I would have worked over the sky just a bit in PP to darken and give it a bit more drama. This scene and the time of exposure would have also benefited by the use of a Graduated ND filter to balance the sky a bit. Anyway, well done!
Thank you for sharing.

This is a very pastoral scene. So peaceful that my blood pressure just went down to normal levelwhile viewing this. Seriously, I like how you framed this, and the inclusion of the foraging horses add 'oomp'. Best wishes - Danilo

Hi Kath,
A beautiful photograph which summarizes well the whole of the interesting images which were proposed to us on this marvellous site. The inclusion of the horses in the compositon is more beautiful effect and adds to the majesty of the places. I like much the WS which resembles a beautiful painting. Beautiful work, thank you Kath.

Hi Kath,
No need to promise anything, as this series is really something. On this one, besides the picturesque ruins we have also a pretty Spring view, with the horses giving a pleasant bucolic and tranquil mood.

Hi Kath
Thanks for the lovely distant view, both here & in the WS...crisp & sharp, the layer of green grass in the FG with the horses create an added attraction. The light seems to be harsher than your earlier posts, but this is a good one anyway

hi Kath,
I love this composition .. the timeless ruin in this pastoral scene .. if I were to be really picky (and I guess I am today) .. I would love really soft really early morning light to amplify the pastoral feel of the rest of the image .. or maybe it should be that the brightness on the horses is working against what I want to feel from this. Still I like it very much ..
take care,
John
